Transition your garden into spring with Early Snow Glories. These 4- to 5-inch tall perennial flowers pop up as winter's final snows are fading and continue to bloom through mid spring. Revitalize empty areas with swaths of these sky blue beauties, each of which are crowned with masses of delicate star-shaped blooms. Chionodoxa forbesii require little maintenance during their blooming season and are deer resistant, making them an excellent woodland ground cover.

These vigorously adaptable flowers will grow almost anywhere in hardiness zones 3 through 9. Better yet, their yield will increase year after year. To help ensure their success, plant your Early Snow Glories during the fall in open, sun-soaked spaces or in light shade. To produce dense, textured ground cover, bury clusters of these Dutch bulbs about 3 inches deep and 2 to 3 inches apart in well-drained clay, loamy or sandy soil.

Use Chionodoxa forbesii to add some much-needed life to empty lawns, or to create lush carpeting under trees in groves and orchards. On a smaller scale, they will look wonderful scattered around rock gardens and evergreen shrubs. You might also consider planting them in rows to frame walkways and your soon-to-be bountiful borders and beds. Shake off winter's chill with these sweet sky blue flowers.
