What Makes Asiatic Lilies Unique?

Pining for summer? Our selection of early bloomer Asiatic lily bulbs will add a hint of tropical warmth to your late spring garden. Available in an array of colours from creamy white Asiatic lilies to nearly black varieties, the majority of these beautiful blooms span the sunny range of the colour spectrum. Glorious reds, warm yellows, hot pinks, soft peaches and multi-coloured mixes all bring welcome pops of brightness and warmth to the early summer garden.

How Should You Plant Asiatic Lilies?

Asiatic lily bulbs are both the earliest bloomers and easiest to care for of the lily family. Simply provide these Dutch bulbs with well draining sandy or loamy soil and six to eight hours of sun. We recommend planting Asiatic lilies in well turned soil about 6 inches deep, with the pointed end facing up. Place the bulbs about 9 to 12 inches apart, or in clusters of three or four. Like all lilies, these bulbs should be planted in the fall, before the first frost. Most varieties are hardy in zones 3 to 8. These perennials return year after year, and will propagate fresh bulbs. Divide the lilies and replant the new bulbs after blooming has finished.

What Are the Main Characteristics of an Asiatic Lily?

One of the wonders of the Asiatic lily plant is how many varieties there are. From tall stalks with a single glorious bloom per branch to shrub-like plants loaded with blossoms, lilies with double blossoms, and dwarf Asiatic lilies, the selection is astounding. Consider a mix of colours and sizes for your garden. Carpet border lilies reach about 18 inches tall and make delightful borders and walkways, while other varieties can reach 3.5 feet tall and make stunning focal points or backdrops. These lilies all make wonderful companions for lower growing flowers, and a bed of brightly coloured Asiatic lily blooms paired with poppies, white alyssum or variegated hostas is a sight to see. Fill your garden and your vases with a variety of gorgeous, exotic Asiatic lilies.
