Trumpet Daffodils
Trumpets are the best known and most recognizable group of daffodils, identifiable by having cups, or coronas, at least as long as their petals. They come in a wide array of colours, and their trumpet-shaped cups can be wide, narrow or flared. Trumpet daffodils are carefree, reliable bloomers that multiply freely, making them outstanding naturalizers. Gardeners often plant these versatile flowers in beds, in borders, near shrubs, beneath deciduous trees, in naturalized areas or in containers. Use small trumpets to add colour to rock gardens and large ones in drifts for visual impact. They tolerate a wide range of sunlight, grow best in well-drained soil and taste terrible to deer and rodents. They grow best in the colder climates of zones 3–7.
