Iris Anatomy 101
With literally thousands of variations of tall bearded iris in the world, it helps to identify these beautiful blossoms by their three main parts:

Standards: The three upper iris petals that stand at attention, curving to meet each other at their highest point. Standards can be ruffled or lacy, solid or multicoloured.
Beards: The fuzzy flower accents that look like colourful caterpillars! Beards not only give the bearded iris its name, they help guide pollinators to the treasure trove of nectar inside.
Falls: Often a contrasting colour to the standards, the falls consist of three downward curving petals that highlight the beards and complete the distinctive iris look!

This iris collection includes one each of the following varieties:

  • Rings: True Magnificent in size, colour and form! Its 5" blooms feature white standards edged in sky blue above snow-white falls highlighted by deep blue stitching. Yields eight plump buds per stem. Grows 37" tall.
  • Mango Passion:Tropical-hued iris sports flamboyant ruffles along with its rich mango-orange colour. Blooms give off a wonderful perfume, which is enhanced when planted in large groups. Bears 8–10 double- and triple-socketed buds. Grows 32" tall.
  • Edith Wolford: Vigorous variety produces lots of 4½" flowers with light creamy yellow standards atop medium blue-violet falls. Presents up to nine plump buds on 2–3 branching stems per plant. Recipient of the 1993 Dykes Memorial Medal. Grows 35" tall.
  • Sunrise Elegy: Beautifully sculpted iris has standards of bright buttercup yellow suffused with white and accented by serrated edges. Large, creamy white falls are outlined in yellow. Brilliant orange beards. Flowers reach 6" in size. Grows 39" tall.
  • Black Is Black: True jet-black iris is breathtaking in the garden, especially when planted with white and light-hued varieties. Boasts 9–12 blooms of 4½" per stem, making it ideal for bouquets and borders. Winner of the 2017 Wister Medal. Grows 37" tall.
