Wonders of Lifetime peonies

Forever and a Day – The wonders of Lifetime Peonies

I’ve had professionals recommending flowers to me and piles of information on our plants to root through for a while now. How in the world did I miss these until now? I just now found out about our lifetime peonies—and they’re fantastic.

First of all, they’re huge, brightly colored flowers that stand beautifully against their dense green foliage. They boast a heavenly fragrance. They’re extremely hardy, lasting through harsh winters and poorer soil. And, as I found out today, they give a “lifetime of delightful foliage and massive late-spring to early-summer blooms.” A lifetime. Delightful foliage and massive blooms. Again, how did I miss this? There are some still bright and beautiful in Asian temples that have been there for over a hundred years. And that’s before the hybridizers got their hands on them and made especially fantastic varieties for Breck’s.

I was going to recommend the lifetime peony collection, but I’m trying to limit my collection suggestions to ones you can use in a way you might not have thought of. That’s because it feel like that’s a cheat on my part—suggesting a collection means it has already been paired by professionals and you could just as easily find it yourself. So let me take one variety I specifically liked and put it with some other awesome plants, okay? My favorite is the Felix Supreme Lifetime Peony for its classy bright red blooms.

It’ll make for a 2-3’ backdrop for lower-growing flowers and likes full sun to part shade. You really don’t have to consider much about soil or anything like that. Except where you might want peonies for the next, you know, decade or two… or ten. Tiny Tod Ultimate Iris is a great variety for edging, and can be particularly beautiful against a peony’s green shrub-like foliage backdrop. Yellow and red look stunning together in the garden, so Tiny Tod’s red and yellow will be beautiful with the red peonies. The unique pattern of the falls, mahogany rimmed with yellow, will add interest with color patterns. The small iris in front of the large peony will also add size variation.
