Description

You Will Adore Them, Deer Will Avoid Them

Watching a family of deer that has meandered into your yard is truly a joy to behold. That is, until you notice them looking at your flower garden as if it were a buffet table.

You can divert bucks, does and fawns from your growing areas by planting beautiful blooms they would rather eschew than chew. There are many types of flowers that people love yet are unappetizing to these gentle but often ravenous creatures. We've included seven such varieties in the new Breck's® Deeresistible™ Designer Garden.

Our flower experts assembled this selection of flowerful perennials to provide gardeners with colourful, nonstop blooms from mid spring to the first frost, year after year. And while deer will usually avoid them, these flowers will be intensely alluring to butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators. Plant them as shown in the garden diagram included with your order to get more fluttering and less foraging!

The varieties in this collection cover an area of approximately 87½ square feet (7' x 12½').

This garden is suitable for hardiness zones 3–8. It should be planted in well-drained soil where it will receive full sun.

Blazing Star:This North American native and relative of the daisy and the sunflower produces vertical, 12–15" flower spikes that resemble bottle brushes. The tiny, magenta blooms open from the top moving downward and attract butterflies, birds and bees.Liatris spicata
Size: 8–10cm Bulb
Height: 24–30"
Bloom Time: Mid to Late Summer

Painted Daisy: Beloved perennial's attention-getting flowers have bright yellow eyes and highly contrasting petals that vary in colour from reddish pink to crimson. A long-time favourite for cut-flower bouquets and perennial borders, Painted Daisy is also useful for containers or tubs that need some zip.Tanacetum coccineum

Height: 36–48"
Bloom Time: Mid Summer to Fall

Brookside Hardy Geranium: Has not one but two blooming periods! Compact clumps of pretty, lacy, green foliage perfectly set off the lavender-blue flowers, which have small, white eyes and deep purple veins. When autumn arrives, the leaves turn vivid red-orange to add even more colour to the landscape.
Size: #1 Plant
Height: 18–20"
Bloom Time: Late Spring to Mid Summer and again in Early Fall

The regular removal of spent flowers will encourage blooming to continue into fall. Delightful in borders, containers and cutflower arrangements.Coreopsis grandiflora
