But this shrub rose hits it out of the park with a continuous supply of bright scarlet, five-petaled blooms on a plant with amazing disease resistance. Dense, dark green foliage, a rounded habit and eye-catching fiery red colour make this a valuable landscape addition—as a specimen accent, at the back of the perennial bed, or as a friendly fence between neighbours. The vigorous bush practically takes care of itself once established. There's no need for deadheading—spent blooms fall cleanly, so the plant always looks fresh.

  • Planting InstructionsStart by soaking the roots in cold water for at least 2 hours. Mound a cone of soil in the center of the hole, then spread healthy roots around the soil mound with bud union (the knot at the base of the plant) at ground level for mild climates, or 2-3" below ground level for cold climates.
  • Light RequirementsFull Sun, Partial Shade
  • Soil RequirementsWell drained, humus enriched soil.

  • Watering RequirementsRoses prefer a thorough watering but do not like 'wet feet.' Water early in the day to avoid wet conditions overnight, which can lead to fungal problems and disease.
  • Fertilization RequirementsFertilize yearly after each bloom cycle, once new growth reaches 4-5". Stop feeding before winter.
  • PruningRemoving spent blooms will encourage more flowers. Prune dramatically in early spring, after the danger of frost has passed and before new growth has begun.
  • Winter CareMulch heavily (2-4") around the base of the plant for winter protection, and remove in early spring.
