Description

Bold, colourful flowers soar skyward without staking.

Towering 4–5' on sturdy, self-supporting stems, this exclusive dahlia blend yields a medley of 4" wide blooms in various richly saturated colours. These varieties were expertly bred by renowned New Zealand breeder Dr. Keith Hammett. At Breck's, we've enhanced this line of dahlias with careful crossbreeding to achieve more and stronger flower colours in this mix, earlier bloom times, more consistent growth and bushier plants. Varieties are not individually labeled.

These revolutionary dahlias transform gardens!

When our in-house breeder, Peter Podaras, first ordered these dahlias in seed form from Dr. Hammett in 2019, Peter quickly realized he had uncovered something truly special and set to work refining the genetics even further. He not only achieved a wider distribution of colours and improved uniformity of habit, but he also improved production, growing enough to make them broadly available in the U.S.

The robust plants grow into towering, shrublike specimens–quite different from typical dahlias. Despite their tremendous height, they don't need staking, particularly when planted in a sheltered spot or bunched together. They come in every vibrant colour under the sun and produce long stems that are splendid for flower arrangements. While they might sport simple single flowers rather than the fancy decorative types, these plants can pop out up to a hundred blooms. A small percentage even release a sweet honey scent.

On top of it all, these dahlias are absolute magnets for pollinators, such as honeybees, hummingbirds and butterflies. They're particularly popular with bumble bees, which are extremely valuable native pollinators. This strong attraction likely stems from the blooms’ generous pollen production–something not found in double-flowered varieties.

Their impressive height, abundant blooms, and sweet fragrance make the dahlias in this mix true standouts, while their sturdy, self-supporting nature means less maintenance for you. Whether planted in clusters for dramatic impact or used for stunning cut-flower arrangements, these breakthrough beauties offer a perfect blend of classic dahlia charm and modern garden performance.
