Fill out your garden with English Bluebells. These hardy flowers bloom in mid to late spring and grow 10 to 14 inches tall. Flood your garden and grounds with swaths of these violet-blue beauties, whose strong stems are crowned with masses of droopy bells. They require little to no maintenance during their blooming season and are deer resistant, making them excellent for naturalizing.

Bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) are hardy in zones 5 through 8 and will thrive for up to four weeks. Better yet, their yield will increase each year to keep your grounds brimming with beauty. To help ensure their success, plant your bulbs during the fall, about 4 inches deep and 3 to 4 inches apart in well-drained clay, loamy or sandy soil. These versatile flowers do well in full sun or shade, giving you the flexibility to plant them practically anywhere you please.

Spread your English Bluebells throughout empty lawns, or create lush carpeting underneath trees in groves and orchards. On a smaller scale, they will look wonderful scattered around rock gardens and evergreen shrubs. You might also consider planting them in rows to frame walkways and your bountiful spring borders and beds. Feel the spirit of the season with dreamy blue Hyacinthoides non-scripta.
