Bee-Friendly Single-Flowered Dahlia Mixture

A dahlia mix in a rainbow of colours.

Butterflies, honeybees and hummingbirds will swarm to your garden with these gorgeous, nectar-laden flowers there! They bloom for months in a range of vivid hues. Featuring fast-growing, single flowered dahlias. Varieties are not individually labeled.

The response to this mixture was so positive when we introduced it a couple of years ago, we knew that any follow-up blend would have to be exceptional. Well, we’re delighted to say our flower pros have outdone themselves again with the Improved Beeline Dahlia Mixture! While they are similar assortments, the new mixture is more uniform in height and flower size, with some blooms even releasing a delicious honey scent. Both mixes feature long-flowering, vividly hued blooms that are beacons for butterflies and other pollinators. Whether you choose the original or new blend, you'll be rewarded with a spectacular garden display that delights both pollinators and people alike!

About the Breeder

Eric Breed of Lisse, the Netherlands, started hybridizing dahlias as a hobby, using plants from his late father's dahlia collection to develop his first hybrids. Now his field is filled with so many of his colourful creations, it resembles a wildflower meadow.

He selected tall plants with large flowers in a variety of colours to breed the stunning varieties found in the Bee-Friendly Single-Flower Dahlia Mixture. Honeybees and bumblebees cannot resist their pollen, and the blooms also draw butterflies and hummingbirds.

To create the dahlias in the mix, Eric crossed spontaneous seedlings that he discovered in his front garden with single-flowering cultivars such as Bright Eyes and the "Bishop" series of dahlias. The Dutch breeder also incorporated the features of some imported varieties and, to create some dark ones for the mix, added genetics from Chocolate Cosmos, a highly sought-after, dusky-looking perennial.
