The bulbs you'll receive were bred to produce large, cup-shaped, multiplehued flowers—all with those signature feather-like petals—with no two exactly alike. About Parrot Tulips
These magnificent tulips have huge, cup-shaped blooms with ruffled and fringed petals that take on a feathery appearance. Add in their profuse splashes and streaks of brilliant colour, and the flowers evoke the image of a certain tropical bird known for mimicking human speech!
Growers in Holland started cultivating parrot tulips during the 18th century. With their vivid hues, exotic look and large flowers measuring nearly 5" across, these showy varieties deserve a prominent location in your garden bed, border or vase where they can be on full display.

- Yellow Madonna Parrot: The supple, plumy petals on the outside of each large flower can range in colour from golden yellow to soft yellow to almost white. The outer petals are boldly accented by dark green markings. Height: 16-18".
- Rainbow Parrot: Lavish, fragrant variety features a full, feathery form highlighted by splashes of yellow, green and rich brownish red. Plant in a seasonal border or use as a striking addition to fresh-cut arrangements. Grows 12–14" tall.
- Black Parrot: This beloved tulip's dark, wavy, heavily frilled blooms appear in late spring. The exterior of the petals is deep purple while the inside is blackish purple. An excellent choice for cut-flower arrangements. Grows 20–22" tall.
- Negrita Parrot: This generously feathered, fancy relative of Tulip Negrita offers vibrant violet flowers, sometimes with thin green striping on the outer petals. It adds an extra dose of drama and fun to the garden.Height: 16.
- Apricot Parrot: With its kaleidoscope of colours, it electrifies border plantings and garden beds. A fabulously feathery flower, it boasts a bright orange-apricot coat accented with shades of bright pink and vivid green. Fragrant. Grows 16–18" tall.

To promote optimum stress protection in transit and your success in the garden, bareroot perennials are kept in the ground in our nurseries until fully dormant. In the Fall these plants tend to arrive at the later end of the shipping window above.
In all cases, we choose the fastest, most efficient way to delivery your orders via the USPS or FedEx based on your hardiness zone.. Large orders may be shipped in more than one package.
Bulb and perennial shipments direct from Holland are harvested in July and August dependent on the season and crop. Once fully inspected and packaged they are shipped direct to you in the most efficient manner to follow the dates above.
Garden hardgoods and Gift Certificates ship with in 4-7 day.

Tulips Tips & Growing Instructions
Perennial tulips are special because, unlike many hybrids, they come back reliably year after year. Besides choosing a truly perennial variety, there are a few steps you can take to ensure perennial performance... Plant bulbs in well-drained soil. This will help naturalizing or perennializing and cut down on the risk of disease and fungus. Plant bulbs deep. Measuring from the base of the bulb, place the tulip about 6" inches deep. Water after planting. This will ensure that your tulips develop a strong root system before going into winter dormancy. After the blossoms have peaked, remove the flower heads and allow the green foliage to die back. Fertilize in fall and spring.
The botanical name of this popular spring flower is derived from the Persian word, toliban, turban, when the inverted flower was supposed to resemble. It does belong to the Lily Family and grows wild over a great territory from Asia Minor through Siberia to China. Tulips are very easy to grow. Most gardeners plant their bulbs in November in full sun. Place your tulips about 6" deep in moderately loamy soil with some humus and sand added. After flowering, allow bulb foliage to wither before cutting - that way, sap in the foliage returns to the bulb where it provides added strength for next year.
Care in Lifting - You may choose to lift your tulips after the foliage has ripened. This is not necessary with hardy perennial varieties. If you lift, store the bulbs in a dry place during the summer and replant them next fall in fresh soil - this will reduce the risk of disease. Each year before replanting, inspect your bulbs for bruises or cuts that may allow diseases to enter and then spread to other bulbs. This is essential since an infection of the incurable disease 'Fire' (Boyrytis) will require you to burn all your tulips!
