When he set out to enhance the much-loved White Feather Hosta, he wasn’t simply looking to tweak a favourite—he aimed to take it to the next level of garden performance. The result was the Improved White Feather Hosta, a stronger, more substantial selection that retains the luminous, colour-shifting foliage gardeners adore, while delivering thicker leaves, improved vigour and a naturally upright habit. Its enhanced structure even allows for greater sun tolerance, broadening its garden performance.
Based at Heemskerk Vaste Planten in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, Arie works at the forefront of perennial breeding. While widely respected for his advancements in hostas and daylilies, his expertise extends well beyond shade and summer borders. White Feather Hosta
Unique, colour-changing leaves. The fascinating, full-shade White Feather Hosta is truly magical! Curious white leaves are a welcome surprise as they emerge in spring. As it matures, the leaves transform into a blend of green and cream. Lavender flowers grace your garden in mid to late summer. Performs best in full shade. Direct sun can burn the foliage.
Improved White Feather Hosta
While the leaves of the original White Feather Hosta grow horizontally, this one’s reach for the sky, and are thicker and sturdier. These qualities give Improved White Feather a more upright habit and make it more sun tolerant (although it performs and looks best in full shade). The foliage is uniquely hued, opening as white before developing green veining and then changing to a blend of cream and green in the weeks that follow. Monkey Business Hosta
Elegant arching foliage with wide chartreuse margins and deep green centres is held aloft by striking red petioles, adding a bold touch to shady borders. This medium sized, one of a kind hosta grows up to 18" tall and produces light lavender, bell-shaped blooms in midsummer that attract pollinators. In the photo at right, Monkey Business breeder Arie Blom is seen admiring one of his "babies"!
