Tall garden phlox reaches new heights under the hand of Janus Verschoor.

Based in Haarlem, The Netherlands, Janus works at his family’s nursery, A. Verschoor Horticulture, founded in 1956, where he has built an international reputation for pushing hardy perennials to new heights. His specialty is unmistakable: towering, architectural phlox bred for commanding presence, improved vigour and exceptional garden performance.

The Giant Phlox Trees in our Phlox Tree™ Collection are the result of that focused breeding work. These are not simply tall selections, but carefully developed cultivars chosen for strength of stem, density of bloom and reliable impact in the landscape. Each year, we walk the Verschoor trial fields ourselves, evaluating new introductions and selecting only the most impressive performers for our customers.

While giant phlox remains his signature achievement, Janus’ breeding expertise extends across the perennial border. He also holds patents on distinctive false sunflower, speedwell and yarrow varieties—plants selected for durability, strong garden character and pure flower power.

Just a short drive from our own Dutch offices, Verschoor’s nursery has been a trusted partner of ours for many years. That close relationship gives us—and our customers—early access to his finest phlox selections.
