White Feather Hosta

White Feather Hosta

Unique, colour-changing leaves.

The fascinating, full-shade White Feather Hosta is truly magical! Curious white leaves are a welcome surprise as they emerge in spring. As it matures, the leaves transform into a blend of green and cream. Lavender flowers grace your garden in early summer. Performs best in full shade. Direct sun can burn the foliage.

What Plants Look Good with White-Edged Hostas?

White Feather Hosta is an ideal choice for illuminating shady gardens and other darkened corners of the yard. When selecting companion plants, seek out those that thrive in bright morning sun and cool afternoon shade, just like the hosta does. Astilbes, ferns, bleeding hearts, heucheras and shade-friendly bulbs make excellent companions for White Feather Hosta and other hostas.

How do you Care for White-Edged Hostas?

White Feather Hosta and other hosta varieties are low-maintenance plants, requiring minimal care. To ensure their well being, it's important to keep in mind two key points: hostas need ample water and should be shielded from direct sunlight. While White Feather Hosta can adapt to various soil types, it thrives in damp, well-drained earth with a slightly acidic pH. Some gardeners choose to fertilize their hostas each spring.

White Feather Hosta flourishes when primarily positioned in shade, but it benefits from receiving some morning sunlight. To allow hosta plants to spread adequately, it is advisable to avoid planting them too closely together. Once the leaf mound forms, placing a layer of mulch underneath is beneficial as it prevents weed growth, cools the ground and retains moisture in the soil for a longer period. However, the mulch layer should not be excessively thick, as this may increase the risk of disease.

Due to their large leaves, hostas have a high rate of transpiration, necessitating an ample water supply of at least an inch per week during the growing season. While White Feather Hosta can endure periods of dryness, providing sufficient water will facilitate its growth, promote faster development and maintain its attractive appearance throughout the season. When the foliage naturally dies back in the fall, the plant should be trimmed down to ground level.
