Sweet Jumbo Crocus Collection

Sweet Jumbo Crocus Collection

Please the Bees with These!

It's Wise to Naturalize!Imagine gazing out into a sea of royal purple and bright gold after a long, drab winter. A popular trend in landscaping, naturalizing crocuses is an ideal way to add colour and impact to your early spring lawn. The varieties in this collection make it easier to greatly increase their coverage, because each of these larger corms will produce a multitude of blooms.

To start your informal crocus garden, simply toss handfuls of bulbs into a grassy area, and plant them where they land. Over time, your crocuses will multiply freely to create a breathtaking display!

After each spring show is over, let the grass-like foliage of the crocuses mature completely before mowing the lawn. This will ensure your bulbs have the vital nutrients they need to come back the following year. Choose an area that gets moderate shade to keep the grass around your crocuses from getting too long before it's time to mow.

Spring's Welcoming Committee

Bees love the nectar in these big, early bloomers!
Do your part to help sustain the bee population by planting a swath of these large, lovely crocuses that are among the finest grown anywhere in the world!

Breck's® experts have selected five big varieties of nectar-oozing, bee-welcoming crocuses from leading Dutch growers to create our Sweet Jumbo Crocus Collection.

Technically, crocus are corms, but they are widely referred to as bulbs as well. No matter what you call them, Holland's best specimens produce bright, oversized crocus blooms early in the season—weeks before other spring flowers arrive on the scene. Our jumbo corms not only produce larger flowers, they produce more of them—as well as greater amounts of nectar and pollen. So, when you grow these crocuses, you help feed more bees.

If you have the space, plant them en masse in a sunny spot. This will allow them to more easily spread and multiply each year and serve as a shining beacon for queen bees in search of sweet nectar. Crocus flowers close at night, and bumblebee queens are known to pass the time inside these floral cocoons before breakfasting in the morning sun.
