Guinea-Hen Flower

Guinea-Hen Flower

Square-patterned blooms!

Fritillaria meleagris is native to Europe and western Asia, and has been in cultivation for centuries. The name meleagris means "spotted like a guinea fowl." This fascinating plant features bell-shaped, 2" flowers with a unique chequered pattern. These graceful, nodding blooms, which grow one or two to a stem, are usually burgundy, but an occasional flower is white. Its tiny, grey-green leaves start to yellow in late spring to early summer. Can be grown in grass, rock gardens or water gardens, but we suggest planting in large groups. Naturalizes well.

Important Shipping Notes:

Breck's times its shipments from Holland so that bulbs and bareroots arrive at the proper planting time (depending on climatic conditions) for each area of North America. To promote optimum stress protection in transit and your success in the garden, bareroot perennials are kept in the ground in our nurseries until fully dormant. In the Fall, these plants tend to arrive at the later end of the shipping window below.

We will pack and ship your order based on the following schedules. The type of product you order or the weather may affect the anticipated shipping schedule below. Based on the contents of your order we always strive to ship your order complete, and as early as possible in the planting season to allow for the best root development once planted.
